UPCYCLE CHALLENGE 2023!
March & April, 2023
Our class is participating in a unique ADST (Applied Designs, Skills & Technologies) activity this term – the Upcycle Challenge.
What is Upcycling? ”Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.” Students, with help from family, are asked to find items around the house that can be creatively transformed into newly-purposed items. Items can find new practical purposes or can be created for artistic or decoration purposes.
Students will be asked to provide design details, plans and drawings for their projects; these are all important aspects of the ADST curriculum. Most of the work for this challenge will be done at home using items and materials found around the house – please do not purchase items to upcycle! Family members are encouraged to help with the design and manufacturing process, but please allow your child to do most of the work. Students will show off their creations in class and we’ll put the best creations on display for all DC students to see! I’ll make sure we get photos of the creations for the website, too.
Thanks for your support in this endeavour; I look forward to seeing some amazing transformations! A due date for creations will be set after Spring Break, but students are more than welcome to begin creating at any time.
Remember to check online for creative Upcycling ideas!
